On walking in Tango ...

Geraldine Rojas and Javier Rodriguez

This historic couple, said in an interview on this subject.

Remarks by Geraldine Rojas
"Gerardo Portalea always told me to dance with rhythm. I did not understand what he meant by that and his explanation was summed up to" the cadence is the rhythm, you do have it or you don't. "He said" it's like love or hate , is in you or not. "
.
"I started at a cultural center where my mother and her husband offered courses. I wanted to learn and my mother told me I was very young." Suddenly, I started to run and jump all around to annoy the students ... if I do not danced, the others should not do either. My mother finally told me that if I stayed quiet in the chair during the course, she would teach me to dance. The next day I did not move.
I was 6 years old and the more I looked over she wanted to dance, to wear  gorgeous skirts, make, like dancers, Boleos, drawns ... And my parents asked me to walk! For 2 years! Alone in the edges of the track. I told them I wanted to dance and not walk. They explained that if he could walk then i could dance. And they were right, because the most difficult part of tango is walking, but I only realized it later. "
.
"Tango is a culture here because everyone dances until the age of 80 without ever taking a course. And those women of 80 years of age can often do better a boleo, with relaxed legs, that a young 25 years old girl that take courses during several years. When I dance with old men, with a big belly, which seem hardly able to move, but that hug you like a baby or the most important woman in the world, I want get married to them. And with young dancers and goodlooking men I often do not feel anything. "
.
Remarks by Javier Rodriguez:
"One night we were in a milonga and there was a demonstration of a couple aesthetically that was a" show ". The music was deep, Pugliese style. A tango dancer, a great teacher, with whom we sat, we commented:" Too bad dancing! The man who dances the tango should walk as a man , not as a dancer ."... Perhaps this is linked to what people see ... They watch a show and want to dance in the same way. "
.
"It's easy to draw the attention lifting up the leg, but is much more difficult to make a nice decoration on the floor."
